Photo References 

Please bring 10 or fewer of your own printed photographs of subjects you would like to paint.

It is important that these photos are taken by you and not copied from a book or magazine.

Please print your 5 favorite pictures both in black and white and in color.

Please do NOT bring Ipads or cellphones for photo reference. Hard copies are essential for this workshop.

Drawing Sketchbook (at least 8.5” x 11”)
  Pencils: HB (#2) and 6B
  Pencil sharpener and eraser
Paper Two sheets of 22”x30” (or eight sheets of 22”x15”) 140#, cold-pressed, 100% cotton watercolor paper
  [Recommended: Arches, Saunders Waterford, or Artistico Fabriano]

Do not cut paper – tearing techniques will be demonstrated in class. No painting will be larger than 11”x15”

Professional 15 ml Hansa [yellow] or Cadmium Yellow or Lemon
Grade 15 ml French Ultramarine [blue] or Cobalt or Cerulean
Paint Tubes* 15 ml Perylene Red or Carmine or Alizarin Crimson
  15 ml Payne’s Gray or Neutral Tint
  15 ml Quinacridone Burnt Orange
  15 ml Opera Pink or Permanent Rose
  [Recommended: Daniel Smith, Holbein, Winsor Newton Professional, or QOR; possibly Da Vinci or American Journey]
Supports One board at least 13”x17”
  One board at least 10”x13”
  Three to five boards at least 8”x10”
  [Recommended: Gatorboard or Masonite; possibly plexiglass; foamboard as a last resort]
Brushes One large round brush, size 12 or 14
  One medium round brush, size 8
  One small round brush, size 4, for detail
  [Highly recommended: Silver Brush 3000S Black Velvet Short Handle (natural/synthetic blend, nice belly, fine tip)]

[Also Recommended: Escoda Perla or Escoda Versatil] Make sure brushes are for watercolor (soft) and with fine tips.

Palette Covered palette with large mixing area
  [Recommended: Frank Webb or John Pike]
Household Two containers for water (yogurt/cottage cheese containers]
Items One roll of 1” masking tape [not the blue or green painter’s tape)
  One roll of paper towels
   Small household sponge
  Small squirt or misting bottle for spritzing (optional)
  Ultra or Extra Fine Black Sharpie marker

*Note- These paints are merely recommendations as you may have other hues of yellow, blue, and red, which are fine.

It is vital that you bring Payne’s Gray or Neutral Tint as we will be doing several grayscale studies..
